All About Room 202
Attendance
It is very important for you student to arrive on time. However, students may not arrive before 7:45 a.m. due to no supervision. At 7:45 a.m., students will be allowed inside the building. Students who are eating breakfast may go to the cafeteria. If not eating, all other students will be allowed into the gym. At 8:00 a.m., all students will walk up to our classroom. School officially starts at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.
Communication
Communication between teacher and parents is a vital piece in your child's education. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns anytime. You can email me at [email protected] or call me directly at (503) 431-4768. If I am unavailable please leave a voicemail and I will contact you as soon as I can. If there is a message that needs to reach me before the end of the school day, please call the main office at (503) 431-4800.
Homework
Monday through Thursday your child will be assigned homework. Each student will use a homework folder that will need to be brought to and from school each day. As a part of their homework, your child will be asked to read for 20 minutes. Reading 20 minutes each night makes a big difference in the classroom and in your child's future as a reader. Reading logs will be collected each Friday.
Please remember that homework is an extension of our curriculum and gives your child the chance to practice critical skills. It also gives parents a chance to see their child's academic growth. It is helpful to make homework a part of your child's routine.
P.E. and Music
The days our class have P.E. and Music depends on the letter day, which is indicated in the school calendar. This is our letter match-up:
A day- Music
B day- P.E
C day- Music
D day- P.E.
E day- Music
F day- P.E
On P.E. days, please make sure your child wears appropriate clothing and shoes.
Lunch Money
If your child needs to bring in lunch money for school lunches, please have them turn it in to the cafeteria before school. If you prefer, money can also be added to the account online. If you have any questions, please contact the kitchen.
Snacks/Water Bottles
As a class, we will be having a short mid-morning break to enjoy a snack. I encourage students to bring a quick healthy snack to enjoy to make it until lunch. I also allow and encourage for students to use a water bottle to be kept at their desk. This will minimize distractions of getting up to get drinks and will promote healthy hydration. I do ask that the water bottle does have a lid that can be closed.
Student Star
Each week one student will be selected to be our "Student Star". At the end of the day on Fridays, the new Student Star will be announced. That student will take home a poster to be decorated with photos, drawings, and fun information about the student.
Monday: The Student Star will get to exchange their desk chair for a special rolling chair for the whole week!
Wednesday: The Student Star will share their decorated poster to the class. The poster will be displayed on the Student Star bulletin board for the rest of the week.
Thursday: The Student Star is invited to eat lunch in the classroom with me and two friends of their choice!
Birthdays
Although we recognize and celebrate birthdays in our classroom, we do not allow treats to be included in these celebrations. We will include treats to be apart of our holiday celebrations. If you would like to donate to other celebrations throughout the year, please let me know.
Volunteers
I always will accept any help in the classroom! Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering in our classroom in any way. I will gladly work around your availability and we can figure out a schedule or times that works for you.
Notes
Please send a note to school with your child if he or she:
-is leaving school with a friend or family member they do not usually go home with
-will have a upcoming, planned absence
-needs to take medication at school
-needs to stay in from recess
